Composing images #2: perspective and shape

This is another one taken at Hastings jetty, Victoria, Australia that shows a couple of composition techniques.

Boats at Hastings

Perspective: the line of boats retreating into the distance and the trees behind them form a diminishing triangle that gives a sense of depth and draws the eye in.

Shape: the repeating triangles of the masts against the uncluttered clear blue sky are the main point of interest.

This was shot hand-held at F22, 1/60sec, ISO200, focal length 18mm. It was mid-afternoon and full sun as it so often is here which makes for harsh light (overexposed highlights and dark shadows).
